The purpose of these themes is to provide inspiration of subject, but the objective is always to create a good image by paying attention to light and composition.
FEBRUARY
LANDSCAPE/SEASCAPE
Natural scenery which may show some evidence of man’s influence.
MARCH
OPEN
Any subject but to be successful it should contain one or more of the following qualities; strong pictorial appeal ( good composition and lighting ), impact or story telling interest.
APRIL
ABSTRACT
An image which isolates an area and creates a non-recognisable subject.
MAY
ENTRANCES/EXITS
An object or place that allows one to enter or leave. This could include doorways, gates or foyers.
JUNE
STILL LIFE
An image of an arrangement of inanimate objects whether natural or man-made or a combination of both. It may also be an arrangement of a small object(s) in a natural or contrived setting.
JULY
FIRE/SMOKE
An image with either of these as a main subject.
AUGUST
DEPTH OF FIELD
Deliberate control of your aperture to create an effect. EXAMPLE: macro with limited DOF or landscape with extended depth of field.
SEPTEMBER
PORTRAITURE
A portrait of a person, animal or both which may range from a head to a full length study and which may include accessories and backgrounds in character with the subject.
OCTOBER
SLOW SHUTTER SPEED
Use of a slow shutter speed ( 1/2 second or more ).
NOVEMBER
NATURE
A picture of flora or fauna excluding domesticated animals, cultivated plants or flowers. Minimal evidence of humans is acceptable, and minimal post processing is requested.
